The history of the world is riddled with great double acts. Laurel and Hardy, Alka and Seltzer, Jay Leno and the-guy-who-played-Mr-Miyagi in the classic mismatched buddy movie Collision Course. The best combo of all, though? That has to be a shiny new Game Boy Micro and a copy of Advance Wars. (The Collision Course stars come a very close second, however.)

With its aggressively esoteric premise (an elite band of assassins co-exist in the shattered mind of their wheelchair- bound mentor? Okaaaay) and manga-meets-brutalism visuals with more than a slight whiff of S&M, it's easy to write off Killer7 as, well, y'know, a bit of an oddball.

History Lesson: The surprising origins of Nintendo's timeless franchise...
It was the morning of 1 February, 1985, and Nintendo needed a hit. Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, and Toshihiko Nakago were working on the first Mario game for the Famicom, and Super Mario Bros. would be finished and released by September of that year. But one killer game was not enough for the Famicom, and its upcoming Disk System, to be a success: one style of game was not enough. This new title would be different. The Legend Of Zelda had begun.
